Mines and Facilities
We currently operate eight mining complexes. Mining activities are organized into three operating regions: Illinois Basin, Central Appalachia, and Northern Appalachia.
Because we produce a diverse range of steam coals with varying sulfur and heat contents, we are able to satisfy the broad range of specifications required by our customers. Of the coal we produced in 2007, 25.9 percent was low-sulfur coal, 13.2 percent was medium-sulfur coal and 60.9 percent was high-sulfur coal.
